Introduction

Finland's schools are considered to be one of the best in the world. Finland's students are outperforming most other countries each year on an international test for reading, mathematics and science. According to the website for The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (www.pisa.oecd.org), Finland has consistently earned top scores on The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) each time the test has been administered for years 2000, 2003, 2006, and 2009.

The purpose of this website, Country Case Study: Finland, is to explore the educational system in Finland and to investigate their school life and use of technologies. The goal of this site is to make connections between Finland's institutions and their success and to uncover what we can learn from Finland. What ideas might we consider to be beneficial to apply to our own system? Are their steps we can take that might improve our standings on global tests such as PISA? Their are many lessons to learn from Finland and their thoughts on education. On this site, you will view presentations and read factual information to help you understand the differences between the schools in Finland and the United States and which will help you determine what policies and practices might integrate well into our own local school system.
